prolapse
The rectum is the section of the digestive tract upstream of the anus, where stool resides before being passed out of the body through the anus.
The anus is the opening at the end of the digestive tract through which stool is expelled from the body (see also Overview of the Anus and Rectum).
Prolapse occurs when an organ slips from its normal position in the body.
In rectal prolapse, the rectum turns inside out so that the rectal mucosa is visible on the outside of the body.
As a finger-shaped, moist, dark-red projection of the anus. Rectal bleeding may occur, as well as a frequent symptom of uncontrolled stool loss (fecal incontinence). More rarely, the rectum may protrude into the vagina (rectocele). The disease causes pain only when complications occur or when the prolapse is severe.
